THERE ARE STILL a lot of unanswered questions about Nvidia’s upcoming GTX460 which should be based on the GF104, but pricing of what appears to be a real card has appeared in a price search engine in Europe, with several retailers listed as having put the card up for pre-order. Price wise the new card is very close to what AMD’s Radeon HD 5830 sells for in Europe, so it’ll be interesting to see how it performs, once it launches.
The card in question is listed on Geizhals and comes from Asus. The model name is ENGTX460/2DIS/768MD5 and at least a couple of the online retailers claim that the card is set to ship within the next two weeks with a price tag of about $259-$279. As this includes 20 percent sales tax, the cards will likely be cheaper in the US, not counting the fact that hardware is usually more expensive in Europe. This could mean a US retail price of as little as $200 depending on how badly Nvidia wants to compete with AMD’s Radeon HD 5830.
Claimed specifications include a 675MHz clock speed with the shaders at 1350MHz and DDR5 memory at 900MHz for an effective clock speed of 3.6GHz. The memory is said to use a 192-bit interface and the GF104 in this incarnation is said to have 336 shaders and 42 texture units. The TDP shouldn’t exceed 150W which would be good news for Nvidia if proven to be true. The card will most likely have DVI, HDMI and DisplayPort connectivity, judging by the model name.S|A
