What platform is Intel’s Diamond Rapids on?

Not exactly a pedantic question it seems

Intel LogoWhat platform is Intel’s Diamond Rapids on, and why does it matter? Allow SemiAccurate to shed some light on the matter for the third time.

Back in 2018 SemiAccurate called Intel on their woes, mainly effects of the 10nm debacle we exclusively told you about starting in 2016. Without rehashing the whole mess, OK read most of it here, we can say that in mid-2019, Diamond Rapids was due to come out in 2h/2023 on the Mountain Stream platform. At the time, Emerald Rapids didn’t exist and Granite Rapids was the successor to Sapphire on the same Eagle Stream platform.

Everything slipped and Emerald followed Sapphire on Eagle which meant Granite got a new platform, Birch Stream, basically a bug-fixed, mostly, Eagle. Diamond was now on Birch too for obvious customer reasons although we can’t point to Intel ever saying this publicly. Then again I don’t think they have said Diamond publicly yet so we won’t hold that against them. OK, we can’t resist, they will be 5 years late in two days.

So what has changed, and does this affect Diamond+1?
